Delivery

How much does delivery cost?

There is a range of delivery options and delivery costs are calculated at checkout. Remote postcodes sometimes incur additional charges and we will contact you if this is the case. We offer free delivery via a national carrier on many orders, or a furniture delivery service that may be required for bulkier and heavier items and which has additional service elements. Please check the product pages for details.

How long will delivery take?

Most in-stock items are delivered within 10-15 working days but deliveries via the national carrier service take a little longer. Made-to-order furniture items may take longer - typically 5-6 weeks. We'll provide an estimated delivery timeframe when you place your order and keep you updated on progress.

Can I choose my delivery date?

This depends on the delivery service that you select. If you are using the furniture delivery option then this is a bookable service and once your order is despatched you will be contacted to arrange a delivery date. Unfortunately it is not possible to choose a delivery date using the national carrier service. We can arrange to despatch within a specific timeframe that is more convenient for you and as long as we know in advance.

Do you deliver to my area?

We deliver throughout mainland UK. Deliveries to Scottish Highlands and other remote locations may incur additional charges and longer delivery times. Please contact us for a quote. We do not currently deliver to the Islands or Isles.

Do you deliver internationally?

We do not currently deliver internationally.

Will you bring the items inside?

Deliveries via the national carrier are to the front door only. If you have opted for the furniture delivery service then this will be a 2-man team and they will carry all the parcels - large and small - to room of choice. This is especially important for large or assembled items such as double beds, chests and wardrobes.

What if I'm not home when delivery arrives?

The recommended furniture delivery service is a bookable service and so will arrive on the day you want it. Unfortunately the national carrier service does not provide booking and will take the order away again if no-one is at home. If you have to leave the house then it is possible for the carrier to leave the order with a nominated neighbour or a specified "safe place" and clear instructions should be left on the door.

How will my items be packaged?

All items are carefully packaged to protect and prevent damage during transit. Beds are typically delivered in several boxes, with bed ends often arriving fully assembled in large boxes. Mattresses are delivered in protective packaging.

Should I inspect my delivery?

Yes, we ask that you inspect all the packages at the time of delivery. If you notice any damage to the outer packaging please advise the driver and ask him to make a note - normally by taking a photograph - or sign with the word "damaged". If you can also take photographs and contact us if you have concerns it will help us resolve any issues quickly.

Returns & Cancellations

Can I cancel my order?

You can cancel your order any time before the day of despatch for a full refund including delivery charges. Simply contact our customer service team. Made-to-order items cannot be cancelled once production has begun.

What is your returns policy?

You have 14 days from delivery to return items, provided they remain unassembled, in original packaging and in as-new condition. Items that have been fully or partially assembled and mattresses cannot be returned as they cannot be reasonably resold.

How do I return an item?

Contact our customer services team on 01985 300588 or email us to arrange your return. We'll organise collection and guide you through the process. Please ensure items are safely packed in their original packaging.

Are there any return fees?

For change-of-mind returns (non-faulty items), collection fees apply: £50 for beds, large furniture and large mattresses; £29 for smaller items such as chairs and desks. Faulty or damaged items are collected free of charge.

What if my item arrives damaged?

We're sorry if this happens. Please contact us immediately with photographs showing the damage. We'll either replace the affected parts, send a replacement item and/or arrange a free collection - whichever you prefer.

What if I received the wrong item?

We'll sort it out straight away. Contact us and we'll arrange free collection of the incorrect item and send the correct one as quickly as possible.

How long do refunds take?

Refunds are processed within 7 days of receiving returned goods in acceptable condition. The refund will be made to your original payment method. Please allow a few additional days for the funds to appear in your account depending on your bank.

Assembly

Do your beds require assembly?

Yes, beds are delivered in boxes for practical delivery. However, our bed ends arrive fully assembled - reflecting the integrity of the traditional jointing. This means less assembly work for you and ensures structural strength.

How difficult is assembly?

Assembly is straightforward and doesn't require special tools or skills. Each bed comes with clear instructions. Because the bed ends are pre-assembled, you're mainly connecting them with the rails and fitting the mattress base - avoiding lengthy assembly with nuts and bolts.

How long does assembly take?

Most single beds can be assembled in 45-60 minutes. Bunk beds and more complex configurations will take a little longer. It is always easier if two people can assemble bunk beds and high sleepers.

Do you offer an assembly service?

Yes, we do offer an assembly service which can be booked when placing your order. Please note that assembly is done by an experienced assembler and not the delivery team. Assembly will not happen on the day of delivery but after.

What tools will I need?

Basic tools are usually sufficient - typically an Allen key, which is included. An electric screwdriver is useful if you are assembling a bed as there are quite a few screws for screwing down the mattress base. The instructions will specify exactly what's needed for your particular product.

What if I'm missing parts or instructions?

Contact us immediately and we'll send out any missing items. We keep comprehensive spare parts stocks and can usually despatch missing components within a day or two.

Beds - General Questions

Are your beds full adult size?

Yes, all our single beds use the standard UK single size of 3'0" x 6'3" (90cm x 190cm). This means they're suitable from childhood through teenage years and into adulthood. Our small doubles (sometimes known as queen size) are 4'0" (120cm) wide.

What age is a single bed suitable from?

We generally recommend moving to a single bed from around three years old, once children have outgrown the cot and are ready for more independence. Every child is different, so you'll know when yours is ready.

Can adults use your beds?

Our beds are built to "adult" specifications and designed to last. They're ideal for guest rooms and will comfortably accommodate adults. The solid hardwood construction and traditional jointing ensures that they're more than capable of adult use.

What's the weight limit on your beds?

Our beds are designed and tested to exceed safety standards. While we can't publish specific weight limits the dynamic testing we do is equivalent to over 100kg, and the solid hardwood construction means they'll comfortably support adults. If you have specific concerns, please contact us to discuss.

Do you sell beds with storage?

Yes, all our bunk, single and small double beds can be paired with under-bed storage drawers or trundles. These make excellent use of the space beneath the bed for bedding, toys or extra sleeping space for guests and sleepovers.

Can I add a trundle bed later?

Yes, our trundle beds are designed to fit under our single, bunk and small double beds and can be purchased separately at any time. They're perfect for sleepovers and can also be used for storage when not in use as a spare bed. Please contact us on 01985 300588 to order a trundle separately.

Bunk Beds & Loft Beds

What age is the top bunk suitable from?

Safety standards recommend 6+ years for using the top bunk. That said, you know your child best - if they feel confident and secure, and can safely use the ladder, they may be ready. Younger children should always sleep in the lower bunk.

Can your bunk beds be separated into two singles?

Yes, all our bunk beds can be divided into two full-size single beds. This extends the lifetime of your furniture as children grow and their needs change. Each single bed is designed to look and function beautifully on its own.

What's the difference between a bunk bed and a loft bed?

A bunk bed has two beds stacked on top of each other. A loft bed (or high sleeper) has just one raised bed with open space underneath that can be used for a desk, seating, storage or other furniture. Space saving loft beds are particularly popular with older children and  teenagers.

What mattress thickness is safe for the top bunk?

You should use a "high bed" mattress of 15cm or less thickness for the top bunk. This ensures the mattress sits within the height of the safety guard rails. Standard mattresses are too deep and can pose a safety risk.

How much ceiling height do I need for a bunk bed?

The guidance is a space of around 70cm from the top of the mattress to the ceiling allowing an adequate headroom on the top bunk. Whilst the height of bunk beds varies you should be looking at an overall ceiling height of around 2.4 metres or more. We recommend a minimum ceiling height of 2.4m (8 feet) for bunk beds. Check the specific dimensions of your chosen bed and measure your room carefully before ordering.

Are your bunk beds safe?

Safety is paramount. Our bunk beds are constructed with solid wood frames and using traditional jointing techniques for assembled ends to provide extra strength and durability. They are tested to meet and exceed UK safety standards. All top bunks have guard rails on both sides and sturdy, comfortable ladders.

Mattresses

What type of mattresses do you recommend?

We recommend traditional, foam-free spring interior mattresses. The spring action provides consistent support over many years, picking up each movement and supporting during sleep. We don't use foam mattresses as they don't offer the same longevity or responsiveness.

What's the difference between open coil and pocket sprung?

Open coil mattresses are the more traditional method of making mattresses and use larger, special high tensile steel springs linked together and side by side. They will provide a slight rolling motion in use and tend to be slightly "softer" in feel than the more modern pocket sprung units. Pocket sprung mattresses have many smaller springs individually sewn into pockets, reacting more independently to movement and possibly offering more targeted support.

Do I need a special mattress for a bunk bed?

Yes, for the top bunk you need a "high bed" mattress with a maximum depth of around 15cm or 6". This ensures the mattress sits within the guard rail height effectively. The bottom bunk can use a standard depth mattress if preferred.

What sizes of mattress do you offer?

We offer mattresses in standard UK single (90cm x 190cm) and small (queen) double (120cm x 190cm) sizes to match our bed frames. Spring interior mattresses are often made in imperial sizes (single 3'0" x 6'3" and double 4'0" x 6'3") and there will be slight differences in metric and imperial conversions. We also stock high bed mattresses specifically designed for bunk beds and loft beds as well as trundle bed mattresses, designed to fit our trundle beds (76cm x 183cm).

How long should a mattress last?

A quality spring interior mattress should provide 8-10 years of comfortable sleep with proper care. Rotate regularly and air the mattress when changing bedding to maximise its lifespan.

Do your mattresses meet fire safety regulations?

Yes, all our mattresses comply with UK Furniture Fire Regulations. For our natural mattresses, we use naturally fire-resistant materials like wool, which removes the need for chemical fire retardant treatments.

Materials & Quality

What wood are your beds made from?

We use solid hardwoods throughout our bed frames. Hardwoods offer superior strength and durability compared to softwoods like pine. This ensures our beds can withstand the rigours of family life - all the jumping, tumbling and sprawling that children do.

Why don't you use pine?

Pine is a softwood and with knots that make it weaker and prone to breaking. Sap can also seep through paint over time. Solid hardwoods provide the strength and structural integrity needed for safe, long-term use as children grow.

What is mortice and tenon jointing?

Mortice and tenon is a traditional woodworking joint where a projecting piece (tenon) fits into a cavity (mortice). It's one of the strongest joining methods, far superior to modern dowels and bolts. This is why our bed ends arrive fully assembled - to preserve this structural integrity.

Is your wood sustainably sourced?

Yes, timber sustainability is paramount to us. We use timber only from managed forests and reinforce our responsibility through a chain of custody. Our beds are often made close to the forest, minimising the carbon footprint of transportation.

What is the mattress base made from?

Our mattress bases are made from solid hardwood slats, carefully spaced equidistantly within a webbed roll design. This supports the mattress evenly while allowing air to circulate freely, enhancing comfort and helping regulate temperature.

What finishes are available?

We offer a range of painted finishes and natural wood options across our collections. All paints used are child-safe and meet relevant safety standards. Browse our collections to see the available colour options for each range.

Safety

Are your beds safety tested?

Yes. We have our own test housen and advanced testing equipment and test to all clauses of relevant safety standards, measuring by how much we can exceed them. Safety is a paramount consideration and informs our decisions about design and materials.

What safety standards do your products meet?

Our bunk beds and high beds are tested to UK and European safety standards (BS EN747). We don't just meet the minimum requirements - we actively test to exceed them. We test our single and double beds to essential requirements. Mattresses comply with UK Furniture Fire Regulations.

Are single beds required to meet safety standards?

UK regulations don't enforce safety testing for standard single and double beds, which is why we recommend checking with any retailer. Ask where the bed was made, how it's been tested, and who designed it. We voluntarily test all our products.

Are your paints safe for children?

All paints and finishes used on our products are child-safe and non-toxic. They are tested to the Toy Safety Standard (EN 71 Part 3) which is the more onerous level of testing for toxicity in children's products. They're designed to withstand the wear and tear of children's bedrooms while remaining safe for little hands.

Do bunk beds have guard rails?

Yes, all our bunk beds and loft beds have guard rails on both sides of the top bunk as standard. These are designed to keep children safe while sleeping and are built to the same high standards as the rest of the bed.

Care & Maintenance

How do I care for my wooden bed?

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For painted finishes, a slightly damp cloth can be used for marks, followed by a dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Check and tighten any fixings periodically.

How often should I rotate my mattress?

We recommend rotating your mattress 180 degrees (head to foot) every 2-3 months. If your mattress is double-sided, flip it over every 6 months as well. This ensures even wear and extends the mattress life.

What guarantee do you offer?

Our products are built to last, and we stand behind their quality. Please contact us for specific guarantee information for the products you're interested in. We're always here to help if anything isn't quite right.
