6 ways to transition their room ready for autumn

As we rapidly head towards the end of the summer holidays, it’s time to turn our attention away from the garden and back to our homes, ready to hunker down for the chillier months ahead.

When it comes to children’s rooms, at the turn of autumn, there may be a few things that you want to refresh. Here are some of our top tips when it comes to preparing their bedroom for autumn:

  • If your child is at school it is well worth thinking about how their schooling needs may be reflected at home, come September. Whether that may mean more storage for studies, or even a bigger desk for bigger homework demands, autumn is a good time to start afresh.

  • Bedding choices. Whilst we are all well versed in the notion that we tend to sleep better when our rooms are slightly cooler, you may still want to consider the bedding that your child uses as we enter the cooler weather. Whether it’s adding a heavier weight duvet, or the addition of a couple of layered blankets, adding bedding is a quick and relatively cost effective way to ensure that your child stays cosy as they drift off to the land of nod. It’s also a great opportunity to update the space with a few on trend pieces.

  • Colour schemes. If your child’s room is quite pastel oriented, it may feel lighter, brighter and more spring-summery. To bring a cosier atmosphere to a child’s room, you might want to change the highlight colour in the room. This could be as simple as replacing a pastel green tone with a warm mustard, or adding in some punchy reds to warm up a blue and white tonal palette. Once you’ve selected the new colour, pull the new highlight hue into at least 3 different locations within the room, to make the scheme hang together. For example, this could be a colour within their rug, perhaps a scatter cushion and maybe some art work.

  • To bring a little ‘pumpkin soup’ vibe to their space cost effectively, you could ask your child to produce some seasonal art work of their own. Choose paint colours to tie in with their new scheme, and ask them to create some modern art. Once they have finished, pick their favourite 3 paintings, and frame them to create a unique focal seasonal display.

  • When it comes to colour, if you want to make a bigger seasonal impact in their room, it is worth considering painting a feature wall. Warm, rich tones such as Aubergine, Terracotta, Mustard or Olive all provide bold backdrops that are sure to instantly add seasonality to a space.

  • Cosy toes. Rugs are slightly more expensive items to replace, but in our opinion, not much beats a nice thick, comfy rug to sink your feet into in the morning. They add instant luxury to a room and are a brilliant edition to add further insulation.
