Decorating for Christmas seems to become a bigger event every year, and with us being inside more over the past few, we are naturally turning to revamping our interiors a little bit each season as part of our celebrations.
So is it worth adding some decorations to your child’s bedrooms, and if so, how can you do so quickly and cheaply? Here are our Top 8 tips on how to create a fuss-free Christmassy vibe:
1. Star light, star bright!
Paper 3D stars are a really great way to inject some subtle Christmas styling to their room. Because they’re super lightweight, they can be strung up from the ceiling using a cup-hook and fishing line (just ensure that any cords used are kept away from little hands!)
2. Layer it up
By opting for some festive scatter cushions and blankets, it means that you are able to move them into another room a different year. Christmas duvet covers are great for big impact but they are a little more tying. Opt for star or woodland prints for an overall wintery theme rather than overt Christmas designs.
3. Let there be light!
Create a warm cosy glow with fairy lights. Just ensure that they are switched off when not in use, and are kept away from little hands. Fairy lights that are on bendable wire are the best for styling to a specific shape. Battery operated ones are more versatile since you don’t need to be near a plug socket to see some sparkle.
4. Oh, Christmas tree!
If you’re feeling creative, why not try your hand at making a tree yourself? For a quick craft activity with children, why not ask them to draw some of their favourite Christmas things on some small pieces of paper, and then blue tack them to the wall in the shape of a Christmas tree for a quick, modern update?
If your little one enjoys being outdoors, you could get some twigs, and arrange them in order of size (smallest at the top, and largest at the bottom). Join them up with some string or wool, and wrap decorations around the branches. Hang on the wall for a rustic looking tree.
5. Colour me bright!
There’s no need to be traditional if red and green doesn’t suit their space. Instead, use their existing bedroom scheme to dictate the Christmas colour palette. You can make a Christmassy feel with ANY colour palette.
6. Snowflake Central
A very quick and easy way of creating Christmas styling for their bedroom is to make good old fashioned snowflakes from thin white card. Simply cut out a circle from card, fold up the card into quarters and then cut shapes into the edges. If children are old enough to use safety scissors themselves, then this is a great activity for strengthening little fingers. String the snowflakes up to make a garland, or just hang on the wall for some updated wall art!
7. Get your craft on
If their room is full of bright, vibrant colours, a nice way of updating it for Christmas is to create a pompom garland, interspersed with felt Christmas decorations, which are very on trend currently. Mix up punchy colours such as teal, lime, raspberry and purple for a colourful Christmas.
8. It’s a wrap!
Wrap up some empty cereal boxes to imitate a pile of Christmas presents. These work really well positioned on shelves and tops of furniture for just a hint of festivity. Use them to add height to a shelfie and perfectly position favourite toys and trinkets on top.
