You may or may not know that every year, colour experts Pantone forecast their colour predictions for the year ahead. They take into account social, environmental and political factors, as well as trending colours from the previous year, in order to create the ‘Colour of the Year.’
This is then broadcast throughout the manufacturing and design worlds of fashion, interiors, cars and many other industries, with Colourists leading the way with concocting various colour palette combinations for the end consumer.
For 2020, we’re very pleased to see that Classic Blue is the named colour of the year by Pantone.
Blue is a favourite of ours, and for good reason. Using Blue in kid’s rooms helps to create a gentle, relaxing space that’s also confident and when used in large volumes, can really pack a punch. It’s a timeless colour that never really dates, and works well with many other hues such as Grey, Mustard, Pink and Lime.
Classic Blue for 2020 is a beautifully deep hue that contains a lot of green, so is really versatile for interior spaces, and particularly so in kids’ bedrooms as it’s a great option for a gender neutral scheme.
Here are our Top Tips on how to use Classic Blue in your kid’s bedroom:
Stick to a neutral base by using a pop of Blue with the furniture:
Our Fargo range has so many different options when it comes to selecting Blue kids’ furniture.
Make a bold statement with the Painswick Blue Fargo High sleeper bed, which comes in a variety of configurations to suit bedrooms that require sleep, study and storage solutions. Here is the ever-popular high sleeper with small double bed and storage bookcase underneath. – Ideal for older kids and teens. We’ve paired the deep classic blue of the bed with a sophisticated caramel hue, picking out the vintage browns in the cushion and accessories. This creates a grown up feel that would allow a child to choose some key accessories of their own to layer on top.
Go Bold with Blue:
If your child loves the idea of a beautiful blue bedroom, try investing in furniture and beds that are a light, bright colour to contrast against their new bold Blue backdrop.
In this set we chose a strong blue for the wall behind, with a teal for the window side, to give the space depth. The featured bed is the Fargo high sleeper with single bed and storage desk in our lovely light Farleigh Grey. Farleigh Grey works well in place of opting for white. It’s fabulous for those wanting something a little more trend led, and helps create a modern and stylish space.
As a highlight colour for this shceme, we opted for Lime Green. Potentially not the most obvious choice, but this zesty Lime really lifts the whole space and helps the bed stand out. This Blue, Lime and Grey combination would work really well for an Under the Sea, Dinosaur or Aliens inspired themed room.
Pair with Red for a Classic & Traditional child’s bedroom:
The richness of the reclaimed oak floors teamed with the depth of Blue and cosy Red make this bedroom feel warm, snug and means it just oozes tradition. Opt for classic bedding and textiles like tartans and traditional wooden toys, to complete the look.
If you’re looking to bring in an alternative to Oak wood for an interior scheme, then we’d recommend considering Beech. A solid hardwood that lasts just as long, and is both sturdy and strong, unpainted Beech like our Classic Beech Mid Sleeper Bed, provides a modern and natural feel to an interior space. With its lighter colouring, Beech is very much a look of the moment and due to its hardwearing status is unlikely to go out of fashion.
Not just for Boys!
One of our favourite partners of Indigo Blue is a soft, dusky Pink. Used here with our contrasting Edit Oak and White Bunk Bed, the pink off-sets the blue beautifully, and creates a sophisticated, tranquil space.
If in doubt, add more Blue!
This pale Blue-Grey for the wall panelling that sits alongside our Fargo bedside table in the dramatic Painswick Blue, is a lovely example of a Harmonious interior colour scheme. With touches of warm Oak, and additional blue bedding and rug, it creates a soft, tranquil feel that’s sure to have them ready for slumber in no time.
