2023 Interior Design Trends for Children's Rooms

When it comes to refreshing your little ones' room, the aspect of designing a new interior can at times feel a little overwhelming.

From selecting colours, to creating themes; there's a huge range of choice out there, which whilst hugely inspiring, can at times feel like just too much. All of this can lead to decision paralysis, where you end up with a cobbled together bedroom that neither parent nor child is particularly content with.

We're here to help! - We've scoured the trend reports for 2023, and have rounded up a few of our favourites that we think will work beautifully for children's bedrooms:

Sustainable and Serene

With a focus on creating cosy, cocooning habitats in our homes, one of the main trend focusses continues with the theme of comfort inspired by nature. Embracing neutrals, layering materials and introducing interesting combinations through layers and accessories is key.

Organically styled bedrooms with a focus on wellness using natural wood and sustainably sourced products will be popular as we continue to shift our attention towards planet protection.

Golds and warm neutrals are going to be popular, and whilst a grown up take on a child’s bedroom, can help instil a feeling of calmness and a safe haven.

"Wood is a valuable – and increasingly scarce – natural material. Fortunately there are parts of the world that have long term forest management to sustain this precious resource and we have worked for a long time to integrate this into our processes and design by only using specialist sources." Chris Lusty, Creative Director and Owner, Little Folks Furniture

Statement walls

As we continue to explore playfulness in the home, we’re having more fun and confidence with the way in which we use paint on our walls. From painted borders to modern murals, this shift towards feature walls is one that we think works brilliantly in a child’s room, and can pave the way to let imaginations run riot.

Curves and arches

We’ve seen the Renaissance inspired arches creeping into the world of interiors for some time now, but this trend is only continuing to gain traction and creates a really modern aesthetic. We think it’s an ideal theme to try out in a child’s bedroom, as it helps create a focal point in the room, and is a friendly and fun approach to design.

"Taking the curves through into our children’s bed designs is something that we’ve done before and recently this has been developed further as we have reworked the Edit Bunk Bed design being launched in late October." Chris Lusty, Creative Director and Owner at Little Folks Furniture

"The lozenge shape along the side rail and ends panels creates a uniting feature across the range. And we have completely re-imagined a more ergonomic ladder with similar cut outs and shapes to extend the design themes."

Boundless Blues

Fargo Painswick Blue

From water inspired Aqua and 90s inspired Baby Blue, through to deep Indigo, we think the trend for beautiful blue is going to develop further for 2023.

Whether it’s used on the wall for a strong shot of colour, or introduced as statement bedroom furniture pieces, Blue is a versatile colour for children’s rooms that can be balanced with warm Oak, pretty Pinks, Caramel or Rust.
